What I Stand For

  • Abolish ICE

We need to abolish ICE. As your Congressional representative, I will fight to zero out ICE’s budget, claw back the billions Trump has pumped into his rogue paramilitary, and transfer any legitimate public safety functions to agencies with real oversight.

In the meantime I will loudly, clearly, and consistently stand up to the ICE deportation machine — in the streets of Corona, Elmhurst, Flushing, and anywhere families are living in fear. That means backing the mutual aid groups, alert networks, and community organizations already doing this work with the resources and attention a member of Congress can bring.

Abolishing ICE isn’t enough. We need to prosecute the officers and their leaders who carried out illegal raids, attacked our neighbors, and killed people on our streets. We must hold them accountable.

ICE exists because Congress has neglected to pass real immigration reform for more than a generation. We need clear and legal pathways to citizenship for students, temporary workers, people fleeing violence, and undocumented families. All of us were once strangers to America. We must protect the foundational promise that this country will give a home and a future to anyone willing to live and work honestly.

  • Universal Healthcare

Our healthcare system is broken, with rising costs, worse outcomes, and too many New Yorkers one injury or illness away from financial ruin. Queens has more than 145,000 uninsured people, the highest of any county in the entire state. These are working families, immigrants, and small business owners — the people who run New York City.

America’s private insurance industry depends on denying care, restricting networks, and pushing costs onto patients and employers. All while insurance companies continue to rake in record profits.

And while corporate hospitals drive up the costs of medical care, they also underpay their staff. Just this past year, our New York City nurses had to strike for a historic 6 weeks to secure their own health coverage and benefits.

I will fight to pass Medicare For All, to guarantee healthcare for everyone, including vision, dental, and hearing, with or without a job. Small businesses will no longer have to pay expensive premiums for their employees. Patients will no longer have to deal with surprise bills, carry medical debt, or figure out which providers are in-network.

  • Fund our Families, Not War

America has been in a series of endless wars for most of our lifetimes. From the decades-long occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, to supplying the bombs used in Gaza to kill tens of thousands of civilians, these unjust wars have delivered neither security nor stability. Instead, we have caused mass destruction abroad, brought Americans home either in body bags or with life-altering injuries, and left dark stains on our national conscience.

In Congress, I will vote in favor of the Block the Bombs Act, to end Israel’s use of American weapons to kill civilians in Palestine, Lebanon, or anywhere else. I will sign onto House Resolution 876 recognizing the genocide in Palestine. And I will support legislation like the National Security Reforms and Accountability Act, to ensure no President can unilaterally drag our nation into war.

I will never take money from Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, or any of the defense contractors and defense-tech companies that profit from war. And I will always prioritize using our nation’s resources for healthcare, childcare, education, and housing.

Fighting for Queens

  • Housing We Deserve

Nearly 60% of NY-6 residents are renters. Yet for far too long our leaders have placed the interests of wealthy real estate lobbyists and corporate landlords over working families. The results have been disastrous. Rents have skyrocketed, NYCHA has fallen into disrepair after years of neglect, and working people are being pushed out of the city they built.

In office, I will fight for the large-scale federal investment needed to address this country’s housing crisis. We must provide federal financing to build affordable, accessible starter homes at massive scale. We must repeal the Faircloth Amendment and pass the Homes Act to unlock the development of permanently affordable, accessible housing. And we must fully fund HUD to invest in existing public housing like NYCHA.

I’ll also fight to keep people in their homes. This means supporting tenants’ rights to organize and the right to counsel in eviction hearings.

  • Make Utilities Work for Us

Around the district, residents and small business owners tell me that, after the rent, rising utility bills are their number one concern. And it’s no wonder: Con Edison continues to raise rates, all while raking in record profits. We’re paying more and more to heat our homes and keep our lights on, at the same time that the climate crisis is bringing devastating flooding, wildfire smoke, and heat-related deaths to Queens.

I support the Green New Deal. The economics are clear: solar and wind are the cheapest, safest, and fastest way to bring more energy online. By building a modernized public energy grid based on renewables, we can drive down costs, end our reliance on foreign oil, and create thousands of good union jobs.

I also support investment in modern nuclear energy as part of our clean energy future. New generations of nuclear technology are safer, cleaner, and more efficient than ever before. Combined with solar and wind, modern nuclear power can provide the reliable power we need to fully transition off fossil fuels and deliver stable, affordable energy to homes and businesses across our district.

  • Universal Childcare Income

Today, daycare costs more in Queens than college tuition. And that’s on top of out of control rent prices, rising grocery costs, and gas prices. Parents, usually mothers, are often forced to give up jobs that don’t pay enough to cover childcare, cutting their careers short.

To help parents, I will transform the child tax credit into Universal Childcare Income, sending parents $6,000 per child per year as monthly $500 checks. Under the American Rescue Plan of 2021, we sent parents $300 monthly checks, lifting millions of kids out of poverty, helping parents keep their jobs and keep up with the rent. We can do this again.

Not for Corporations

  • Tax Billionaires

Billionaires have a lower tax rate than the average American worker. The average corporate CEO now makes 350 times more than the average worker. They make more in a single day what many workers struggle to make in a year. And yet our broken tax system asks the working class — teachers, nurses, delivery drivers, and small business owners — to pay to keep our country running. It’s time for this to end.

I support the Make Billionaires Pay Their Fair Share Act. Out of 340 million Americans, this law would only raise taxes on our nation’s 938 billionaires. This isn’t about punishment; it’s about fairness. These billionaires have made their fortunes by exploiting loopholes and labor, leaving workers with less money and longer work days. We deserve better.

  • Queens Says No Casino

Local leaders have given billionaire Steve Cohen the green light to build a massive casino in our backyard, over the opposition of the community. The Metropolitan Park development will prey on the surrounding low-income, majority-immigrant communities — those most at risk to gambling addiction and human trafficking. As your representative in Congress, I will use the full power of my office to stop this casino by any means necessary. We cannot let a billionaire profit off our most vulnerable neighbors.

Beyond brick-and-mortar casinos, online betting and prediction market companies are exploiting loopholes to operate outside standard gambling regulations. They’re advertising to children through mobile games like Candy Crush, trying to hook a new generation.

I support the STOP Corrupt Bets Act and the Prediction Markets Are Gambling Act, which close the prediction market loophole by classifying event contracts as gambling. And I will push for tobacco-style regulations that ban betting ads from reaching our children, and require prominent addiction warnings on all other ads.

  • Overturn Citizens United

Citizens United has allowed big money to corrupt our politics at all levels of government. Too many politicians are bought and bossed, afraid to take real action to improve their constituents’ lives. Instead of working for the people, many members of Congress spend most of their day calling mega-donors, attending big-ticket fundraisers, and meeting corporate lobbyists.

We must fight to end Citizens United and block the unlimited flow of cash into elections. It’s also past time to ban Congressional stock trading, and enact a federal public matching system for small donors similar to what exists in New York City.

Until we build a better system, I won’t take a penny from corporate PACs, registered lobbyists, or groups like AIPAC that solely support a foreign interest. All of my financial support comes from real people like you.

We can't do it without you
